Common questions

Is VS Compete legal in the US?

VS Compete operates as a skill-based contest with no-cash-value prizes and a free method of entry, which is how skill-game apps generally stay distinct from gambling. We still take a conservative, state-by-state approach and turn off paid competitions in a handful of states where the rules are stricter or unsettled.

Which states are Free-Play only?

As of 2026, paid token competitions are turned off (Free Play stays open) in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Can I still play if I'm in a Free-Play state?

Yes. Every skill game and the leaderboard are open everywhere. Only paid token competitions and the token store are turned off in Free-Play states.

How does VS Compete know what state I'm in?

The app checks your approximate region by IP when you open it, and enables or disables paid competitions accordingly.
