How Scoring, Rank Points & Leaderboards Work
Every VS Compete match ends in a clear number — and that number feeds one of two ladders. Here’s how scoring works and the difference between Rank Points and the token board.
How a match is scored
Every game turns your run into a single score or time. In a head-to-head, the better score wins — faster time, more points, or higher accuracy depending on the game. A missed or failed run counts as the worst possible score, so finishing clean always beats a risky flame-out. There’s no luck in who wins: same game, same conditions, better performance takes it.
Two ladders: Rank Points and Tokens
VS Compete keeps two separate leaderboards, and you can climb both:
- Rank Points (RP) — earned in free play, player-vs-player. Every match nudges your RP up or down, so the global Rank Points board reflects pure skill. No tokens involved.
- Tokens Won — earned by winning stake matches like The Pit and The Arena. Tokens are the currency you spend on real prizes, and the Tokens Won board tracks who’s earned the most.
Free play builds your rank; stake matches build your prize balance. Both fill the leaderboards, and plenty of players chase both.
Tiers
Play starts at the Casual tier and stakes scale up from there — so newcomers aren’t thrown in against the highest-stakes players on day one. Warm up in free play and Casual, then step up when you’re ready.
Skill, not chance: because outcomes come down to your score, getting better literally moves you up the board. That’s what the strategy guides are for — pick a game and climb.

Frequently asked questions
Is winning based on skill or luck?
Pure skill. Every match is scored, and the better score wins — same game, same conditions for both players. There’s no chance element in who wins.
What’s the difference between Rank Points and tokens?
Rank Points come from free play and measure skill on the global board. Tokens come from winning stake matches and are what you spend on real prizes.
What happens if I lose a free-play match?
Your Rank Points adjust — every match moves you somewhere on the board. No tokens are at stake in free play.
